Time

2 breasts (450g)

Safe internal

165°F

74°C

There have been plenty of evenings where I've forgotten to take the chicken out, and this has saved dinner more times than I can count - straight from the freezer, no defrosting. It does need a lower heat and a good bit longer than fresh, because the middle has to thaw before it'll cook.

How to air fry frozen chicken breast

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Add the frozen chicken breast in a single layer. Single layer essential. Add 5 mins if thick.
  3. Cook for about 25 minutes, flipping or shaking halfway through.
  4. Check the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) before serving.

Pro tip

Don't overcrowd. If the basket is too tight, the middle will stay icy.

How to tell when it's done

The center is the part that catches you out, so I never trust the timer alone - I check it's hit 165°F (74°C) right in the middle. A thick breast often wants an extra five minutes even when the outside looks done.

Safe internal temperature

Cook to 165°F (74°C) at the thickest point. An instant-read thermometer is the only reliable way to confirm it.

Converting from an oven recipe

If your recipe is written for a conventional oven, lower the temperature by about 25°F (15°C) and reduce the time by roughly 20% to land near 350°F for 25 minutes. Need a different starting point? Use the conversion calculator.
