Convection oven to Air Fryer Conversion
A convection oven already uses a fan, so it behaves much like a small air fryer. The change is smaller: drop the temperature by about 10°F and trim the time by roughly 10%.
How a convection oven compares to an air fryer
A convection oven already has a fan that circulates the heated air, which is the very thing that makes an air fryer work. In practice an air fryer is just a compact, more intense version of the same idea - a smaller chamber and a faster fan, so the air moves quicker and the food crisps a little harder. Because your convection oven is already doing most of the job, the jump to an air fryer is small, and many recipes transfer with barely any change at all.
That is why convection only needs a gentle adjustment: drop the temperature by about 10°F (around 5°C) and trim the time by roughly 10%, rather than the full 25°F and 20% you would use coming from a static oven. One thing worth knowing is that some convection ovens already subtract about 25°F automatically when you press the convection setting. If yours does that, work from the temperature actually showing on the display, not the original conventional figure, or you will end up reducing twice and leaving food underdone.
What to watch
Do not stack the full conventional reduction on top of convection. Your oven already circulates air, so a small 10°F / 10% trim is plenty - cutting more usually leaves the center undercooked.

Convection oven to air fryer: FAQ
What is the difference between a convection oven and an air fryer?
Very little in principle - both cook with a fan-driven flow of hot air. An air fryer simply has a smaller chamber and a stronger fan, so the air moves faster and food crisps a touch more. That is why converting from convection needs only a small adjustment.
Do I still need to reduce the temperature from a convection oven?
A little. Lower it by about 10°F (5°C) and cut the time by roughly 10%. Because a convection oven already circulates air, you do not need the larger 25°F reduction used when converting from a static, conventional oven.
Can I use my convection oven recipes in an air fryer directly?
Often yes, with only minor tweaks. Start from the convection settings, knock about 10°F off the temperature, and check a couple of minutes early - the air fryer simply gets there slightly sooner.
