The air fryer is good for cookies when you don't want to heat the oven for a small tray - soft in the middle, crisp at the edges. Work in small batches and leave room to spread.

Ingredients

Quantities for 4-6 cookies - the times on this page assume that much in the basket.

How to air fry cookies

  1. Line the basket with parchment - dough dropped straight onto a perforated basket welds into the holes. Portion the dough into rounds and space them well apart; they spread as they bake, and touching cookies fuse into one.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 320°F (160°C).
  3. Add the fresh cookies to the basket. Don't crowd the basket.
  4. Cook for about 8 minutes.

Pro tip

Let them firm up in the basket for 2 mins after cooking.

How to tell when it's done

Take them out when the edges are set and golden but the centers still look a little underdone - they firm up as they cool on the rack. A minute too long turns chewy cookies crunchy.

Converting from an oven recipe

If your recipe is written for a conventional oven, lower the temperature by about 25°F (15°C) and reduce the time by roughly 20% to land near 320°F for 8 minutes. Need a different starting point? Use the conversion calculator.

Air fryer cookies: FAQ

How long does it take to air fry cookies?

Air fry cookies at 320°F (160°C) for about 8 minutes. That's for 4-6 cookies in a single layer; adjust slightly for a fuller basket or a different model.

What temperature do you air fry cookies at?

Set the air fryer to 320°F (160°C). If you're converting an oven recipe, that's roughly 25°F (15°C) below the oven temperature, with the time cut by about 20%.

Do I need to preheat the air fryer for cookies?

A 2-3 minute preheat gives the most accurate timing and the best browning, but it isn't essential - if you skip it, add a minute or two to the cook time.
