When the kids want cookies and I don't feel like heating the oven for a tray of three, the air fryer is wonderful - soft in the middle, crisp at the edges. You do have to work in small batches and leave room to spread, mind you.
How to air fry cookies
- Preheat your air fryer to 320°F (160°C).
- Add the fresh cookies to the basket. Don't crowd the basket.
- Cook for about 8 minutes, flipping or shaking halfway through.
Pro tip
Let them firm up in the basket for 2 mins after cooking.
How to tell when it's done
I take them out when the edges are set and golden but the centers still look a little underdone - they firm up as they cool on the rack. A minute too long and your chewy cookies turn crunchy, sadly.
Converting from an oven recipe
If your recipe is written for a conventional oven, lower the temperature by about 25°F (15°C) and reduce the time by roughly 20% to land near 320°F for 8 minutes. Need a different starting point? Use the conversion calculator.
Air fryer cookies: FAQ
How long does it take to air fry cookies?
Air fry cookies at 320°F (160°C) for about 8 minutes, flipping or shaking halfway through. That's for 4-6 cookies in a single layer; adjust slightly for a fuller basket or a different model.
What temperature do you air fry cookies at?
Set the air fryer to 320°F (160°C). If you're converting an oven recipe, that's roughly 25°F (15°C) below the oven temperature, with the time cut by about 20%.
Do I need to preheat the air fryer for cookies?
A 2-3 minute preheat gives the most accurate timing and the best browning, but it isn't essential - if you skip it, add a minute or two to the cook time.
