Asparagus is my five-minute side for when I want something a little nicer on the plate without any effort. It comes out bright and tender with a bit of blistering, not the limp gray stuff a long roast gives you.
How to air fry asparagus
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Add the fresh asparagus to the basket. Keep the spears in a single layer.
- Cook for about 7 minutes, flipping or shaking halfway through.
Pro tip
Snap the woody ends off before air frying.
How to tell when it's done
The thin spears are done when they're just tender with a bit of color; the thicker ones need a couple more minutes. I like them with a slight snap still, not flopping over when I lift them.
Converting from an oven recipe
If your recipe is written for a conventional oven, lower the temperature by about 25°F (15°C) and reduce the time by roughly 20% to land near 375°F for 7 minutes. Need a different starting point? Use the conversion calculator.

A 2-3 minute preheat gives the most accurate timing and the best browning, but it isn't essential - if you skip it, add a minute or two to the cook time.
