The air fryer bakes a quick small batch of muffins with domed tops and a tender crumb, no waiting for a big oven to heat. Use silicone cups and don't overfill them, as they rise quickly.

Ingredients

Quantities for 4 muffins - the times on this page assume that much in the basket.

How to air fry muffins

  1. Spoon the batter into silicone cups, filling each about two-thirds, and scatter the oats over the tops. They rise fast at this heat and will dome over the edge if you overfill them.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 325°F (165°C).
  3. Add the fresh muffins to the basket. Leave space between each cup.
  4. Cook for about 12 minutes.

Pro tip

Use silicone muffin cups for easier cleanup.

How to tell when it's done

A muffin's done when a toothpick in the middle comes out clean and the top springs back when pressed lightly. The tops brown fast, so lay a bit of foil over them if they color before the center's set.

Converting from an oven recipe

If your recipe is written for a conventional oven, lower the temperature by about 25°F (15°C) and reduce the time by roughly 20% to land near 325°F for 12 minutes. Need a different starting point? Use the conversion calculator.

Air fryer muffins: FAQ

How long does it take to air fry muffins?

Air fry muffins at 325°F (165°C) for about 12 minutes. That's for 4 muffins in a single layer; adjust slightly for a fuller basket or a different model.

What temperature do you air fry muffins at?

Set the air fryer to 325°F (165°C). If you're converting an oven recipe, that's roughly 25°F (15°C) below the oven temperature, with the time cut by about 20%.

Do I need to preheat the air fryer for muffins?

A 2-3 minute preheat gives the most accurate timing and the best browning, but it isn't essential - if you skip it, add a minute or two to the cook time.
